President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Chelagat Ruto, held her traditional engagement ceremony on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
The colourful Koito ceremony took place at the Ruto family’s Intonna Heritage Farm in Kilgoris, Narok County. The event attracted significant attention across Kenya and Tanzania.
Charlene Ruto Celebrates Koito Tradition
Charlene celebrated her union with Isaiah Yunge, a 36-year-old Tanzanian technology entrepreneur and social innovator. Yunge co-founded SomaApp, a scholarship-matching platform that connects students with educational opportunities.
Meanwhile, the ceremony followed important Kalenjin traditions surrounding marriage and family relationships. Koito brings together the groom’s and bride’s families for formal introductions and cultural negotiations. The private celebration attracted several prominent political leaders and public figures. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi attended the event. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also joined the gathering. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen attended alongside Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
